Hand Woven Harris Tweed
From the handloom of Donald John Mackay, Luskentyre, Harris.
The Harris Tweed used in the creation of our items is all pure wool hand-woven on a treadle loom at the home of world reknown weaver Donald John Mackay who lives in the village of Luskentyre overlooking Luskentyre Bay on the beautiful west coast of the Isle of Harris.
As a second generation weaver, and native of Harris, Donald John's knowledge of the Tweed and its history is quite exhaustive. His work includes a wide range of colours and patterns many of which are based on traditional Hebridean
designs. A few examples are shown here but we have access to all of his range of Tweeds.
Donald John's Harris Tweed weave, which caught the attention of shoe giants Nike and Clarks, can also be found on upholstery, soft furnishings, designer handbags and designer hats all over the world.
